teenagers mind
It's so fascinating that the teenage mind is not fully developed that's why they make bad decisions and don't think about what they're doing. The prefrontal cortex is shutoff which is responsible for keeping the brain in check when they are about to do something stupid. Teenagers it's been shutoff and they are only working with the limbic system which is responsible for emotions and feelings. I never knew this because we were all teenagers once and probably drove our parents crazy with the things we did, but we didn't know any better really we were doing what we thought was a good idea. Our brains weren't fully developed so that's why we were making stupid decisions and doing things that didn't make sense. Anorexia is so very sad the kids get made fun of for being fat and then they begin to feel like they're fat when they are not it's so very sad. People can be mean sometimes. The prefrontal cortex doesn't mature till they are in their mid 20s that explains the moods swings and why they want to just stay in their room and listen to music away from everyone.

I will agree that we all were a little crazy and made stupid decisions as teenagers. I am almost sure that it was because of the lack of sleep in my case because I was partying till wee hours of the night and going to school with maybe four hours of sleep, now I know why I did not do my best in high school.
ReplyDeleteIn regards to the eating disorder I will say that society needs to take a look at what we are doing to our children, because I say what we are doing is not working it's destroying our kids self esteem. It's so sad.
I also found this topic very interesting this week and chose to write about it as well. Although it has been a long time ago since I was a teenager, I do remember taking many risks, and when I look back I would think are pretty crazy now. I since it has only been about a decade since they have been discovering all this stuff about teenage brain development, I can't wait to see what else they come up with.
